Houghton Dairy Lane Bowls Club

The club has been in existence since 1910 when it was opened on the 9th July with the inaugural game being held against the Ashbrooke Bowling Club from Sunderland. The club was originally formed for male only players and in 1935 a ladies section was formed. In 1940 a letter was received from the military authorities requesting the use of the club as accommodation for troops during the coming winter, there are no records of the usage following this request.

in 1961 a new member joins the club Mr WC Winship, more of this auspicious connection later.

Membership

There are three levels of membership.

Full Senior Playing Membership, £65 for 2017. A new senior playing member joining for the first time will receive a discount and only pay £30 for 2017.

Junior Membership, up to age 18; £8. Between 18 and 21; £28.

Social Membership; £5

Social members are entitled to use the club facilities but are not allowed to take part in any games. There are two positions for social members on the committee.

Membership is made by completing an application form which is available from behind the bar.
